While the Cadillac Escalade has long been a name associated with luxury and the finer things in life, Cadillac has plans to catch up with other, more renowned names in the luxury vehicle segment, steadily improving the value of the brand’s lineup and moving up-market.
Now, with the announcement that GM’s luxury brand will be refocusing on the SUV segment in order to compete with the recent market shift toward crossovers and SUVs, a Cadillac luxury SUV is said to be in the works that will be more high-end and luxurious than anything we’ve seen from Cadillac before.
While Cadillac itself has not mentioned anything specific regarding the move, AutoGuide reported recently that a new SUV that will be known as the XT9 is currently in the works, which will serve as the brand’s halo SUV. The Cadillac XT9 reportedly will come with a big price tag as well, somewhere in the realm of $250,000 to $300,000. However, the SUV’s launch will be far-off, with a projected release date falling somewhere in the late 2020s.
If and when the Cadillac XT9 does make its mass-market appearance, it will likely be joined by a sedan counterpart called the CT9. Currently, Cadillac has a CT8 sedan forthcoming that will slate above the CT6 in terms of high-end opulence and luxury, but the CT9 will surpass even that.
The new Cadillac luxury SUV, along with its entirely-speculative sedan counterpart, will be produced in order to compete with other high-end names in the luxury segment, such as Rolls-Royce, Bentlet, Lamborghini, and other big brands long associated with opulence. As all of these brands shift their attention to SUVs and crossover, Cadillac prepares to compete with a secret SUV of its own.
