How to Make Your Car Last Longer
It’s a sobering thought, but someday we will have to part ways with our cars. Whether it breaks down after many years of good use, or you’re forced to sell it, cars don’t last forever. However, there are a several things you can do right now to ensure your car will live a long, happy life.
Tip #1- Stay out of the Sun: Okay, so this first tip may not extend the life of your car, but it sure will keep your car’s exterior looking good for many years down the road. The sun’s UV rays can do a number on your car’s paint, breaking it down and causing it to fade. That’s why you should always pick a shady place to park over a sunny spot.
Tip #2- Don’t Skip Service: This is perhaps the most important one. Skipping service, though it may save you a few bucks in the short term, could cost you big-time later and will decrease the life of your car drastically. Don’t underestimate the benefits of a regular oil change and fluid top-off.
Tip #3- Replace Filters When Necessary: Not only will replacing filters help you extend the life of your car, it will also help you get better gas mileage. Take the air filter for example. If you can’t see the light of day (literally) through your car’s air filter, that means your car can’t breathe properly, and it’s killing your MPG. Do your wallet and your car a favor by replacing the filters.
Tip #4- Be Easy on the Battery: This one is fairly self-explanatory. Don’t drain your battery. It may be nice to turn the car off and listen to the radio while waiting for your wife to come out of the grocery store, but trust us, you’re not doing your battery any favors.
These are only four of many tips to extend the life of your car. In fact, Reader’s Digest recently released “74 Tips to Extend the Life of Your Car.” If you would like to know more about what you can do to extend the life of your car, swing by the DeVoe Cadillac service center today!
