A catastrophic road trip can become a funny story, but only later, after you’ve survived, after you’ve recouped all of the unexpected costs. Why not be preemptive? We’ve thrown together some tips on how to have a successful road trip.
One way to avoid catastrophe is to make sure that your vehicle is up to snuff. Consider taking it to the shop for a tune-up. If you want to go DIY, that’s cool too. You can change the oil if your car needs it. At least check your oil levels. While you’re at it, check your coolant, brake fluid, and steering fluid levels as well. Top off your windshield wiper fluid too.
Consider bringing cash. How much? However much you’d think you’d need if your credit card got stolen.
Inspect your tires, including your spare if you have one. Make sure they are properly inflated and have plenty of tread.
Put together an emergency roadside kit. Include things like non-perishable snacks, a flashlight (with extra batteries), Fix-A-Flat, flares, first-aid kit, blankets, coolant, and basic tools.
We at DeVoe Cadillac know the trick is to expect some contingencies. That’ll get you in the proper state of mind.
