Importance of a Fuel Filter
Your car has hundreds of parts. However, some of them are more important than others. One vital part is your fuel filter. The importance of a fuel filter cannot be overstated, since without it, your car’s engine could malfunction completely.
A fuel filter does exactly what it sounds like—it filters contaminants from the fuel before it gets sprayed into the engine. It is set between a vehicle’s fuel pump and the fuel injectors.
Over time, as the contaminants are collected in the fuel filter, it can get clogged. A clogged filter can cause a lot of problem in your engine, and that is why fuel filters need to be replaced every so often. How often this needs to happen depends on the make and model of your car along with your driving habits.
There are specific signs that you may have a clogged filter. If you experience a hesitating engine, stalling, not starting, hard starting, or varying performance at different speeds, your fuel filter may need to be changed. A dirty fuel filter will also hamper your car’s efficiency, since fuel isn’t flowing into the engine at the proper rate.
