The first day of summer is officially June 21st. Do you know what that means? It’s the time of year when many people hit the road for, you guessed it – road trips!! Can you tell I have a special place in my heart for road trips?
For whatever reason, I always loved road trip vacations when I was younger, and I still do to this day; but now I realize that road trips aren’t really as care free as I thought they were when I was just a little tyke. Road trips take a lot of planning, and, when you’re driving, they take a lot of responsibility. When you’re the one behind the wheel on a road trip, you can’t just doze off whenever you want. Here are a few tips to help all you road-trippers out there stay awake while driving:
- Get enough sleep before hitting the road. It may seem like a bright idea to leave at 10 at night because there won’t be much traffic, but in reality, if you drive at a time when you’re body is used to sleeping, you are much more likely to fall asleep. Don’t risk it!
- Turn the heat off when you’re feeling a little sleepy. When you create a nice, warm, comfortable environment in your car, chances are you’ll fall asleep. It may be uncomfortable, but try turning on the A/C and a good talk radio station to keep your mind active.
- Stay away from energy drinks. Contrary to the name, energy drinks and other sugary drinks will leave you feeling very tired after a short burst of energy. Instead of sugary drinks, try drinking water and eating foods that keep your hands busy, such as trail mix.
All of us here at DeVoe Cadillac hope these tips come in handy for you! Basically, just remember to get enough sleep and keep your mind active when you’re driving long distances. And of course – remember to have fun!
