Three Ways To Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Our country has seen a lot of extraordinary individuals who dramatically changed the cultural landscape for the better. These people went to extraordinary lengths to organize and inspire other like-minded people. One of whom we honor on the 20th of January. Here are three ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
# 1 – Take a road trip to Atlanta. In Atlanta, you can visit the birth home of Martin Luther King, Jr., where he gained the experiences, both good and bad, that ultimately motivated him to become the influential civil rights leader for which he is celebrated. Take a stroll in the peaceful “I Have A Dream” World Peace Rose Garden and contemplate King’s difficulties and triumphs as he helped to achieve equal rights for all.
# 2 – Watch “Selma” as a family. This is a great way to become more intimate with King’s narrative. It’s also a great activity for children. The film depicts the struggles that King went through even after he won the Nobel Peace Prize, including the famous march he led on Selma, Alabama to help secure voting rights for blacks.
# 3 – Use Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a time to get more involved. Take King’s incredible achievements as inspiration to get involved in issues that you care about. Whether it’s continuing the fight for equal rights or taking better care of the environment, do it with commitment and passion, just like King did.
